Naples-Pompei-Ercolano Travel Info
Naples is a city rich in history, and art. The city is placed in the
natural bay, dominated by Vesuvius, and surrounded by some of the most
famous archaeological treasures of the world.
Pompei was destroyed in the 79AD, when the Vesuvius eruption covered
the city with ash and lapillus. It is estimated that only three fifths
have so far been brought to light. Without any doubt, this is one of
the most famous archaeological sites in the world.
The same eruption of Vesuvius in 79AD, that destroyed Pompei, covered
the refined Herculaneum with lava and mud. The eruption submerged the
towns houses and objects, however, here we find well conserved wooden
objects and furniture from the Roman era.
